Bug Fixes & Improvements
Here are the recent fixes & improvements to Patina Project:
Mobile App
- Navigating to "More Like This" recommendations now correctly resets the scroll position to the top.
- Previous screen is correctly remembered after navigating to "More Like This" recommendations.
- Profiles with more than 60 items now load older items correctly.
- Profiles no longer show duplicates of an item.
- Android push notifications are now working again.
- Improved scroll position when pressing "Reply" on a comment.
- Opening comment notifications no longer occasionally makes the photo appear smaller.
Website
- Web pages no longer show stale data when navigating between pages.
- Improved loading times by sending less code to the web browser.
- Reduced layout shift caused by web sidebar appearing after page load.
Howdy! I hope everyone’s having a great start to 2025. I just wrapped up a huge project to roll out the new Patina Project website at patinaproject.com. This is our first big step towards supporting web browsers as a first-class platform. A key improvement to the new website is that it is now discoverable by search engines, so Patina Project will now be able to help answer your questions in Google Search and Images.
✨ Simpler domain name
app.patinaproject.com has been moved to patinaproject.com.
✨ Descriptive Photo, Review, and Item links
Fun fact
: The "viberg-service-boot-gallun-moose-viking-calf" segment actually doesn't matter—it's just there to help you know what the link is for. This also ensures links don’t break if you update your specs. The ID at the end is what uniquely identifies the item. See this in action here: https://www.patinaproject.com/photos/whatever/igeiLuuAlso, all existing app.patinaproject.com links will continue to function and redirect to their patinaproject.com counterparts.
✨ Pretty Profile URLs
We’ve overhauled profile links to be shorter and more descriptive. No more gnarly slug strings—your profile now lives at patinaproject.com/your-username. For a peek at how it looks, here's my own profile at patinaproject.com/tlmader.

✨ Improved browser navigation
We’ve enhanced the browser navigation experience, making it more desktop-friendly with a sidebar and search bar:

- Redesigned tabs and filters and made them more visually consistent.
- Background section is now collapsed by default when viewing photos.
- Added explanations for how photos and camera permissions are used.
🛠️ Bug fixes
- Temporarily disabled Size Guides due to crashes, but they’ll be back soon.
- Special characters are now handled correctly in URLs.
- Save counts on items are now correctly shown when not signed in.
- Removed the incorrect "Finisher" badges being displayed on Thunderdome 1 pairs.
- Pinning photos no longer breaks the order of photos when viewing in full-screen mode.
- Owned for X is now calculated correctly.
- Photos downloaded from WhatsApp now have their dates defaulted correctly.

I'm a bit late sharing this update since these features have been live for a few months now, but hey—better late than never! 😄

When creating an item, you can select from the
Clothing
and Accessories
categories.
For jackets or wallets, choose
Leather
, or choose the new Fabric
spec to track denim or other fade-worthy fabrics!
With
Clothing
selected, you'll unlock the new Tag Size
and Measurements
specs—perfect for logging detailed measurements of your jackets or trousers.
Plus, you can record multiple measurements over time to keep track of shrinkage or stretch.
Please note, building our database of denim makers, models, and fabrics is an ongoing process that will take time. Thanks for being an early adopter and sticking with us!

A little bit of backstory...
In July 2021, frustrated by the lack of good options to document how my boots evolved and to learn from others' experiences, I began programming the first version of Patina Project. As the project grew, Hillary (a.k.a. knoll) and I became fully committed to creating the best possible experience for the quality footwear community. With the growth of the community, our workload increased as well.
For two years, Hillary and I dedicated countless late-night hours to Patina Project while managing full-time jobs in technology startups. In October 2023, I made the decision to leave my job to focus entirely on Patina Project, and to improve both Hillary’s and my physical and mental health. While Hillary stepped back from coding to focus on her daytime job, she continues to support me as I work on developing a sustainable revenue stream for Patina Project.
This decision has significantly improved our well-being, and I believe Patina Project wouldn’t be where it is today without this dedicated focus. To keep Patina Project growing and evolving, I need your support. If you’ve enjoyed using the platform and want to see it thrive, please consider becoming a Patina Project Supporter.

🛠️ Bug Fixes & Improvements
- Replaced our in-app product pages with direct website links.
- Fixed an iOS-only bug where questions would not open after skipping to the "Review" tab.
- Fixed deleting one's own comments on another person's photo.
- You can no longer edit the maker after a review has been added (doing so would break existing reviews).
- Removed black bars appearing on older photos found in the "Random" channel.

Bug Fixes & Feed Improvements
The recent app store version, 9.0.0, includes the following changes to improve your Patina Project experience:
Improvements
- Added a Reviewschannel to the feed.
- Multi-photo posts are now sorted by the order uploaded.
- Multi-photo posts now take the average height of all their photos, to improve how portrait photos are displayed on the feed.
- Submit buttons across the app are now easier to spot.
- Added Share to Feedsetting to Many Photos tool.
Bug Fixes
- Photos no longer randomly disappear on the feed on Android.
- Multi-photo posts no longer show "0" as the currently viewed photo.
- Missing reaction buttons on the "who reacted" list are now appearing.
- The fit review explanation no longer takes up too much space.
- Photos and reviews posted now immediately appear on the feed.
