New photo gallery
I'm excited to introduce the new photo gallery experience in Patina Project.
Please update Patina Project to v12.0.0 to enjoy the latest features.
The problem
From the beginning, I envisioned a photo-viewing experience in Patina Project that allows you both to cycle through photos and scroll down to learn more about the pair that's pictured. Until today, this has been broken up into two separate experiences:
- Feed photo: Open a photo and scroll down for more details—but you couldn’t swipe left/right to see additional photos.
- Album photo: Open a photo and swipe left/right to browse the album—but to read more about a photo, you had to exit the gallery and switch to the Specs tab. Furthermore, taller photos were sort of cramped to fit into the screen space.
Combining both horizontal swiping with vertical scrolling has historically been a challenge to get right. Recently, I discovered the right solution and immediately went to work.
Multi-photo posts on the feed
After opening a multi-photo post on the feed, you can conveniently swipe through the remaining photos.

A page counter will be displayed on top to show you how many photos are left to see.

Album browsing
You can now quickly access specs below each photo. Scroll further down to access store recommendations and similar photos.

New menu for premium photo features
To tidy things up, we moved the photo tools for Supporters into a dedicated menu.

For only $4.99/mo, you can unlock more photo features while supporting our mission to organize and share footwear knowledge with the world!
Web browsing
We also added arrow buttons to cycle through previous/next photos when browsing on web:
Improved and fixed
- Deleting a photo now properly exits the edit screen. Shout-out to patinatimes for reporting this!
- The five latest changelog posts are now included in notifications. Note that older posts may need to be re-dismissed.
- Switches are once again the correct tan color.
Conclusion
We’d love to hear your thoughts, so don’t hesitate to reach out or drop feedback in the Patina Project Discord.
